Daisy's 1st day home...

Miss Daisy on her 1st day home, August 27th, 2008...

Our new soon to be puppy, Daisy!

After the loss of our awesome husky Dakota, life just isn't the same without having a dog as part of our family.
The girls have always had Dakota, we miss him dearly but knows also that he would want us to have another protector & loyal companion for his family.
So as we had really wanted another Husky, one of my daughters saw a picture online at our local shelter for Husky puppies! As much as I didn't want to go out there so soon after losing Dakota, I broke down and took her out there. It's such a sad place to me & I was already sad losing such an amazing dog of 14 years! As we looked through the 1st building of lined up cages filled with 2 & 3 dogs each :(  we saw no Huskies. The dogs were so noisy as I'm sure it was a combination of feeding time & them just hoping that these humans would choose one of them. Their cries are heartbreaking. We walked over to the main building to see if they could pull up the puppies online. Of course no Husky puppies! Double heartbreaking. We continued to look throughout the rest of the shelter, but I still remembered this one dog that was the ONLY quiet one, a newly spayed female Lab mix by the name of "Ebony". For whatever reasons, we walked back into that building to look at her one more time. She was such a sweet thing, laying there with those big brown eyes, and just a small wag of the tail. I told her, "You are so quiet & well behaved, not like the other doggies in here, you know how to act, lol" Then we left the shelter.

After arriving home, we told the rest of the family all about our experience there. The next day, my other 2 girls wanted to go out. I'm thinking, NOT again! 0_0 I don't like that place, it's sad, depressing, I can't take all of them home!!! But they really wanted to see "Ebony". So here we are again, pulling into the parking lot & finding ourselves looking into an empty cage where she once lay. This bothered me alot! So I had asked the main desk what happened to the dog in kennel S03? They told me she hadn't been adopted, so I assumed the worst, death =( Poor little sweet puppy, how cruel. But they assured me the are a "no kill" shelter. So where is she? Finally after searching the play yard and the rest of the kennels, she had been moved to an outdoor kennel to run with other doggies! I'm not sure who was happier to see her, her or me! The shelter volunteer suggested we take her out to the play yard and spend some time with her.
That was not the best idea, because from that moment on, I wanted her! She fetched, ran & romped all around with the girls. She seemed like such a great little dog. So now the hard part came...convincing my hubbie about getting another dog! Well after begging & tears & showing him the pics & video of her, he broke down and said yes!

Her name was chosen before we drove out to get her. Her name was meant to be Daisy =)
